Discount Car Insurance?
Have you had the same car insurance policy for two years or more? Then it’s time to shop for discount car insurance to make sure you are still paying the right price for the coverage you carry. If you have not had any claims or traffic violations during the time that you’ve held the policy, you may qualify for a lower rate now than when you got your current coverage.
When getting quotes for auto insurance, request the highest deductible you can afford. The deductible amount car drastically affect your premium rates and raising it can really save you some money on premiums. You can probably save enough money in a couple of years or so to pay the difference in the deductible if you are ever involved in an accident. The same amount you’d spend on a lower deductible you can put in an emergency savings account drawing interest.
Before buying car insurance, determine exactly what coverage you need. Re-examine your current insurance policy and make sure it accurately reflects your situation. If you carry the same coverage for over five years, you may need to increase the limits if you have more financial assets to protect. If you have divorced you may only need minimum financial protection and may still be paying for coverage you really don’t need.
Review each line item on your policy and familiarize yourself with the terminology, and of course to make sure that you’re not paying for something you don’t need. Consider rental insurance. It is usually less than $30 per year, and if you are ever involved in an accident, you’ll be glad you have it. It can take weeks and sometimes months to get your car repaired after a wreck. But do go ahead and get rid of Personal Injury Protection (PIP) coverage if you have adequate medical insurance. PIP only pays after your other medical coverage on the auto policy and your regular medical insurance have reached their limits.
After you have determined exactly what coverage you need and what discounts you qualify for, you’ ready to get quotes from different car insurance companies. Doing all of your homework in advance will help you really be able to compare oranges to oranges since all of the premiums will reflect the same deductibles and coverage levels. Choose the lowest price from a reliable insurance company. If you are satisfied with your current car insurance company, offer them the opportunity to meet or beat rates from competitors. Rates may have changed since you got your current policy, and you may even qualify for a lower rate if you ask.
