Only two things count in putting..line and speed..with short putts, line is more important. With long putts, speed. Great reminder as to the importance of PRACTICING lags! Cheers!

I have fairly new set of Taylor Made clubs with titlest wedges, The pro I work with has shown me what custom clubs can do for my game. He fits Henry Griffitts. I can definately see the improvement immediately. My question is they will cost about 3K. Should I consider the investment or another brand as I'm not familiar with these. It also after reading other articles seems to be a bit expensive. As I am a student that is with a discount included. Also, I bought although new my clubs after research on ebay and had no problems and saved a bunch over the pro shops.

The cure for fat iron shots is this:

1/ Set up standing tall, let your arms hang relaxed and position the ball so that the club can not touch the ground three inches behind the ball.
2/ Square up back foot so that the backswing does not create a sway and put you in a position where you cannot move through the shot.
3/ Keep your weight on the balls of your feet, not your heels.
4/ Swing THROUGH the shot with more (slightly) grip pressure in your leading hand.

Enjoy!

I hit the ball as straight as an arrow off the tee, just not that far (average 265 yards). I always carry a few strips of lead tape with me in my bag so I can shape drives. Dependent on the hole, I place the tape for a fade or draw. I just take the tape off after the shot. Don't talk about the tape trick during your round of golf.

try laying a tee on ground a half inch in front of golf ball, try and hit the tee with your club, this will make you hit down on the ball and take the divot in front of the ball. this worked very well for me

I understand you are required to go back and hit from where you were on the stroke you lost your ball. It seems impractical when there is a foursome now on the tee box behind you, where you teed off on you lost ball. Now if you fail to hit a provisional, after the swing you lost your ball on, drive 250 yards forward, and find your ball out of bounds, what am I supposed to do? Do I drive back 250 yards and tell the guys trailing me, that I lost my ball and need to re-hit? Wouldn't they see this as poor etiquette? Sometimes, you really don't believe you need to hit a provisional, however you find your ball lying out of bounds? What do you do in this situaltion? I just want to keep my posted scores and handicap true, however I don't want to piss off the guys behind me and slow down play either?

In a mixed 3-ball competition at our club yesterday, my team were disqualified for a scorecard error despite having the best score of 88 points on the day. The competition was the two best scores on each hole with ladies and men playing from their own card. The 5th hole is par 4 for men and par 5 for ladies. One man scored 5 and the lady scored six thus giving us 4 points as part of our winning total of 88 points. Unfortunately teh ladies score was marked down in the other man's column in error. When asked how we calculated 4 points on this hole we realised the error and the team were disqualified for signing and incorrect card. This seemed very harsh in a non-qualifying competition but would you have made the same decision ?

hi golf nut , relating to rule 18 ball in play moved, what happens in the case of a player on the green marks his ball and cleans it then places his ball back and picks up his marker. then before addressing the ball he decides to go behind the pin to double check his line. At this point the wind moves his ball. Does he play the ball where it finishes or put his ball back to roughly where it was.

I agree with Ryan, unless in a tournament or playing for money, it does not matter, its just practice, you should enjoy yourself and the game. We race from work to the course, rush to the first tee, shoes still unlaced, first swing of the day...hook one into the lake..sure take a mulligan! We play the first hole nothing higher then a bogey. Just keeps you mentally stable for the first 10 minutes. I call that purest vs. the realist.

I agree with you 100%...when we are waiting due to slow play ahead of us, the people behind us continue to hit and I have been hit twice over 5 years...what should one say without ending up in a nasty argument? I say let the people behind you plan through and see what they do to solve the hold up ahead.

Amateur golfers everywhere need to realize that the love of the game should not be based on score but the game itself. I agree with casey in the Par is for the best players on their best days. The average person who does not practice, has a job other than golf along with whatever else, expecting to go out and shoot par everytime they play is simply an unreasonable expectation. If they could actually do that we would be watching them on the golf channel.

I personally like to play it as it lies myself and enjoy the challenges the game presents, but for anyone else (as long as they are not playing for money or in a tournament setting) I say let them do whatever they need feel helps them enjoy the game. Because really at the end of the day, if an average person goes to the course shoots a 79 in a non competitive or wagered round, but enjoyed and respected the course, the game, shared time with old friends or maybe made some new ones, it really does not matter in the game of life.

There is not a thing you can do about the shot you just hit, so forget it and move on to the next shot. Don't overthink each shot; you probably can't stand the pressure. Concentrate on hitting the ball solidly and play conservatively and you will be surprised what your score will be.

Mastering your mental game is the most important part of your golf game. Trust your swing, but don't overestimate your abilities. Pars and bogeys work on a score card. Doubles and triples do not.
