Golf swing trouble: no follow through.

Did you know that over 90% of golfers have little to no follow through in their golf swing. I read this a little while back and I wasn't sure if I believed it. But then I started looking every time I went to the golf course. And sure enough, most amateur golfers don't finish their swing which can lead to a ton of problems. I have a simple little golf tip that will help you with this one.

First I guess I should explain what some of the problems that this can cause with your swing. The biggest one that I have seen is the slice. By not finishing your golf swing completely, you don't get your hands turned over which can leave the club face open at impact and cause a fade or most likely, a slice.

This problem can also cause you to lose distance on your shots. So I am going to give you a simple little drill that will help you really finish your golf swing with a solid follow through and finish. You should see additional distance without swinging the golf club harder and, if you slice, this will definitely help that one as well.

Take your golf club and make practice swings with your right arm only (for right handed golfers). Start by taking swings where the club only goes back to parallel with the ground on the back swing and through to parallel with the ground on the follow through. The momentum and weight of the golf club will almost force your right hand and forearm to rotate over as you come through where the golf ball would normally be.

Now take a full swing, still with one arm and finish it completely. Do you feel your right wrist rotating? This is the normal rotation that your right hand should go through in the golf swing.

Do this several times until you really feel the rotation and it feels natural. Then hit some golf balls with this one armed swing. Make sure that you swing with a nice smooth tempo and that you swing the golf club all the way through.

Now practice swinging the club with two hands and make sure that your swing all the way through and finish the follow through to finish high over your left shoulder. The golf club should be hanging down almost touching your back. Now you should feel the same rotation with your right hand and forearm as before. Do this a number of times concentrating on feeling your wrists rotate

To finish, hit some golf balls with a full swing and concentrate on “feeling”the rotation of your right wrist and forearm. You will probably want to repeat this drill a few times to really get that feel without having to concentrate so hard on it.

One quick note on this. If you feel the rotation on the one armed swing, but not as much on the two armed, think as if you were “throwing” the club down the target line as you swing through the golf ball. Then go back and practice the one armed swing a few times before coming back to the two armed swing with this mental focus.

Hey, I just visited this website in search of 3 wood swing flaws help, and I did find them.

I just started golfing this April, and ever since I have fallen in love with it, I haven't had any lessons, only did reading by myself and watched the Golf Channel, I can usually shoot between 80-85 every time i golf, but breaking 80 is something that seems to outreach my grasp, and I am getting the feeling that my long clubs like the 3 wood may be the problem, since I tend to lay up on Par 5's, which are the scoring holes.

But I am here because I live in Michigan, and I was wondering if you knew of a good golf training regimen over the winter I could do, with some free weights or something

Thanks!

Brett
