The Fed Ex Cup is more than half over, have any golf fans noticed?

The Fed Ex Cup was started to increase excitement and interest in golf in the latter part of the year, in particular after the four major golf tournaments of the year are finished up. But at this point it’s hard to tell how people feel about this new format in its’ first year, because not many people are talking about it.

So what is the deal at this point? Do golf fans just not care about this new points system? Is it just too early to tell? Is the Fed Ex Cup already a failure?
Well the reality is that we probably won’t know at least until this inaugural season ends. But here are my thoughts for what they are worth. Probably not much, but I’m going to give them to you anyway.
At this point, I believe that golfers just haven’t thought much about the Fed Ex Cup yet. At this point we have only had two of four of the golf season’s major tournaments. And I don’t think that golf fans will think much about the Fed Ex Cup until we have seen the British Open and the PGA tournaments.
I haven’t seen much from the pros either. But now there is a series of commercials with different pro golfers and other professional athletes that are pushing the Cup competition. So evidently the PGA thinks the same way that I do and is trying to greatly increase exposure as we move towards the August start of the competition.
So that should also tell you golf nuts out there that we are about to read about the Cup a lot over the next 60-80 days. Oh well, just more golf related shows to watch. My wife is going to love it.
So what do I think will be the end result for the FedEx Cup? Well I think that is will survive although I expect some changes to occur over the first two seasons. But I do expect this format to last and ultimately to become popular with the fans. One of the reasons that I believe that it will is the PGA. With big bucks and a major “visible” push for this program, the PGA probably can’t afford to have this program fail without experiencing major embarrassment as an organization.
But the bottom line is, I believe that the Fed Ex Cup will succeed.
