OK, I was wrong about the British Open Winner
I picked Tiger and he was “close” again, but I really didn’t mind being wrong this time. It was a good golf tournament and was enjoyable to watch. There were a lot of golfers in contention and some 72nd hole drama, all in all enjoyable to watch.
I enjoyed seeing Sergio Garcia compete for a major title. We haven’t seen much of him in recent years. And I really thought that he would fade quickly, but he didn’t and had a chance to win the tournament on the 18th hole of the final round.
And the winner, Padraig Harrington, almost pulled a “Jean Van de Velde” but survived to win in a playoff. A double bogey on 18 opened the door for Garcia, who only needed to par the hole to win the tournament. But Sergio missed a 10 foot par putt and Harrington closed him in the playoff.
I also think that it is good for golf for Tiger not to dominate the majors. And maybe this will get Sergio back on track for his career. He is an exciting and fun golfer to watch. Now the focus will turn to golf’s last major of the season, The PGA Championship coming up very soon.
Am I going to make a prediction on that one? Probably will. Being wrong has never stopped me before.
