What Would You Golfers Prefer To Hear More About?

One of the reasons that I’ve been a little slow in posting the last couple of weeks is the huge influx of golf  questions from all of our visitors and readers.  I really appreciate all of the visitors to our golf site and the great questions that they submit.  And it got me thinking about the various types of content on our site and what I write about.

Has The PGA Fixed The FedEx Cup And Do Golfers Care?

Heading towards the Tour Championship, 5 players are in contention and actually have a legitimate chance to win the Cup with a victory at The Tour Championship.  So unlike last years’ embarrassing runaway, the 2009 version of this playoff actually has a little excitement.  So has Tim Finchem and his crew finally figured it out and are golfers excited about it?

Some Of The Things I Love About Golf

I played a round of golf recently that just reinforced some things that I really love about the game as well as make the game fun.  I played in a foursome with a good friend of mine and we were paired with a couple of guys by the starter to round out our group. Let me share a few of the things from this round with you. (more…)

Golf Ruling On This Out Of Bounds Shot

Dear Golf Nut, please help me with this situation.  I hit a tee shot on a hole that had out of bounds stakes down the right side of the fairway.  Just outside of these stakes, in the out of bounds area, were a number of trees.  My shot sliced towards the out of bounds area and appeared to definitely be OB.  I hit a provisional ball and then went to look for my original shot.   We found my golf ball AND it was in bounds, but my playing partner said that I had to play the provisional ball because my ball had obviously hit something out of bounds before landing back in bounds.  I went along with him to keep the peace, but was this correct? Questions On A Slice In Your Golf Swing

I probably get more questions on the slice than any other question.  In fact, I get almost as many questions about the slice as all the other golf swing problems combined.  So even though I’ve answered this before, I’m going to revisit this golf tip to make sure everyone gets a chance for some help.

Can I Use My Bent Golf Club For The Rest Of My Round?

Dear Golf Nut,  I’m a little embarrassed to admit it, but I bent my 3 iron in anger early in a round of golf recently.  I was able to straighten it back enough to keep it usable.  So I finished my round and then I thought that maybe I had broken the rules.  Was I allowed to keep using that club?

Staying Focused During A Round Of Golf

Dear Golf Nut.  Can you help me with a part of my mental game.  Lots of times I will start off a round doing really well and then at some point I seem to start falling apart. And then it seems that the harder I try, the worse I play. Any golf tips on how to stay focused so this doesn’t happen?

What’s Up With Tiger?

Tomorrow is the first round of the PGA Championship, the fourth and final major of this PGA golf season.  Tiger enters this tournament with some interesting stats.  First, he hasn’t won a major since his return from last golf seasons knee surgery.  And he enters his fourth major of the year coming off a win; in other words playing good golf.  So what’s up with Tiger this year, why hasn’t he won a major?

Have The Idiots Taken Over On The Golf Tour?

What a shambles this past Sunday’s round ended up with the events that transpired on the 16th hole.  I mean where is common sense at in a situation like that?  If you for some reason you were under a roc and didn’t see or hear about it, an official put Padraig and Tiger on the clock on the 16th hole after which Padraig proceeded to score a triple bogey, give up his lead, and Tiger walked away with the win.

Top Golf Movies Of All Time

I came across a web page today that had a listing of what it called “The Top 10 Golf Movies”.  That got me intrigued because I see Top 10 lists all the time.  And I hear golfers talk a lot about their favorite golf movie.  So let’s take a look and also see what you think.

Watson One Putt Short Of Making Golf History.

As I watched the finish of the British Open this afternoon, it was one of those competitions that happen once in a while where I personally didn’t want either golfer to lose.  You had Stewart Cink fighting to get close enough to win his first major.  And you had Tom Watson shooting to make history and stirring memories in tons of golfers as he played 4 great rounds of golf.

Golf Tip For Hitting Into A Tight Fairway

Golf Nut, I always seem to struggle with tight fairways.  I can be having a great round of golf and come to a tee box with a tight fairway in front of me and it’s almost like I should just drive the cart and put my golf ball in the rough or the woods.  Any tips for me?

Pre-owned Golf Balls Or Not?

Well golfers, I thought I’d talk about saving money at golf.  Something that many golfers don’t worry about as they chase that elusive “better golf swing”.  But one of the things that drives me crazy is the prices on golf balls.

Is Tiger The Most Undervalued Golfer On The PGA Tour?

I was listening to ESPN talk radio yesterday and heard one of the talking heads bring up this subject.  I thought “Wait a minute, are you crazy?”.  But then I listened some more and realized what he was asking.  He wasn’t saying Tiger was underrated;  he was really asking this question  “Can the #1 player in a sport be undervalued?”  In regards to Tiger, it’s actually a great question.

Golf Nut, I Have A Question For You About Debris Around Your Golf Ball

I think this is ok, but wanted to see what the rules say about this. If you golf ball ends up in a pile of junk like leaves, pine straw, twigs, small branches, it’s ok to move all of that stuff out before you hit your next shot isn’t it?

It’s US Open time Golfers!

I love the Majors, those four tournaments that seem to bring out the best in all of the PGA Tour golfers.  Don’t get me wrong, I love all golf, but I especially love the drama that always seems to come with the big tournaments and so I’m excited about this coming weekend.  Fathers Day and the US Open, what could be better. Struggling With Short Wedge Shots In My Golf Game

Golf Nut,   I am a relative beginner at golf.  I shoot between 105 and 113 or so.  But I love the game and am working to get better.  One thing that I am really struggling with is my chips around the green.  I can’t seem to get these short shorts with my pitching or sand wedge to work.  I either end up way short or knock far off the other side of the green.  Any  help would be appreciated.

Hitting More Greens, Golfers Let’s Look At The Numbers

I recently saw some numbers about the greens in regulation (GIR) statistics for the pro golfers on the Tour.  The average pro hits twelve green in regulations.  Wow, don’t we wish we could do that? Now I don’t expect us amateur golfers to compete with the pros, but how can you hit more greens?  Read on to find out more. (more…)

Golf As An Olympic Sport

I read recently where The International Golf Federation is petitioning the International Olympic Committee to have golf included in the Olympics for the 2016 games. A number of the world’s leading golfers, including Tiger Woods, are backing this effort. Hmmmm… golf in the Olympics, I hadn’t really thought much about this before but let’s think about this for a minute.

Wow What A Masters Finish

Angel Cabrera won the 2009 Masters golf tournament in a two hole playoff today. Chad Campbell and Kenny Perry were tied with Cabrera at the end of 72 holes leading to the playoff on holes number 18 and 10. When I step back and look at this year’s edition of the Masters, it represents one of the things that I love about golf.

Do I Have To Take A Drop On This Golf Shot

Golf Nut, on a par 4 I hit my second shot over a water hazard (yellow stakes) onto the green side of the hazard but off to the left, well clear of the hazard and playable. In trying to chip my third shot onto the green I shanked it back into the water. Do I have the option to play the golf ball from my original position left of the green and in front of the hazard, or am I forced to take the second option of a drop behind the hazard?
