April And Golf; It Must Be Masters Time

Every amatuer golfer has their favorite pro golfer. And we all tend to have a favorite golf tournament, especially if you are talking about the Majors. I love the Masters. I have been fortunate enough to attend the tournament several times and, for a golfer, there is just nothing like it. I am especially looking forward to this year’s Masters for a variety of reasons.

Results Of Golf Nut Poll: Is Tiger Getting Too Much Coverarge?

We recently polled our readers since Tiger’s return to competitive golf. His return was much anticipated and reported over and over. I think that some golfers really thought that I was going after Tiger on this one But the question that I was really trying to get to was geared at the media, not Tiger.

Manufacturing A Draw Or A Fade In Your Golf Swing

I have been asked a number of times from our golf visitors and newsletter subscribers how to control hitting a draw or a fade when it is needed for a particular shot on the golf course. I have hesitated to talk about this because, in my opinion, it is a difficult thing to do for many amateur golfers. But so many people have requested this that I am going to give in with some cautions.

Warming Your Golf Balls During A Round

Hey Golf Nut, I have what may seem like a strange rules question for you. Is carrying an extra golf ball in your pocket during a round considered illegal for artificially warming the golf ball?

Golf Swing Has Totally Fallen Apart

Dear Golf Nut, please help me. My golf swing seems to have completely fallen apart! In my last three rounds of golf, I can’t hit anything consistently except my putter. Nothing seems to work. Do you have any good golf drills for me to try?

Tiger Woods: Too much coverage for golfers and golf fans?

There was the Tiger watch right before his comeback. Even during the time he was out, Tiger was still one of the most written about golfers. Is Tiger over exposed? Do other good young golfers get ignored because of the media’s frenzy over Tiger? What do golfers think about this?

Putting Tip From A Great Golf Caddy

I was reminded today of a great tip that I got from a caddy about twelve years ago. It’s geared towards the struggle that I believe most golfers have at some point. Missing those short putts between 3 feet and 5 feet out. And I’m not talking about the yips. Just when you keep missing to the left, to the right, not consistently to one side or the other, but just missing way too many of these putts and costing yourself tons of strokes on the golf course. And when I was struggling with this, a great caddy who has since then gone to the great golf course in heaven gave me a great drill to fix this.

Golf Poll: Practice Question Results Are In

We recently asked a poll question about your golf practice thoughts. The question was “If you could only work on one thing in your golf swing practice, what would it be?” And the results from a large number of golfers are in and I will also share my thoughts on them.

Strip Show At The Golf Tournament

Yes you read that right! Pro golfer Henrik Stenson took his clothes off in the opening round of the CA Championship golf tournament yesterday. He shot a 69 and was only 4 shots off the lead after his “eventful” round of golf. What exactly happened and were golf fans shocked?

Hybrid Golf Clubs–To Use Or Not To Use

I got a question recently from a reader asking about whether or not she should take advantage of the new hybrid clubs. She had thought about trying them and caught some grief from her regular foursome. Apparently, her golfing partners were purists and thought she should keep hitting those 3 and 4 irons. So golfers what are your thoughts? Well, first I’ll give you mine.

What Part Of Your Golf Game To Work On?

Short game, driver, focus on putting, improve my chipping? I get lots of questions from visitors and subscribers to our newsletter about where they should focus to improve their golf game. I will be doing an article on this shortly, but I wanted to get feedback from all of you other golf nuts out there about what you think the focus should be.

Golf And The Economy

We’ve read all over about how bad this recession and economy is. And it’s on a global basis, not just one country. And we’ve read and heard that it’s having a big impact on golf. But what is the real impact on golfers and what does it mean in the short term? As usual, like everyone else, I’ve got some opinions about it.

See Your Favorite Pro Golfer In Slow Motion

Are you always wishing that you had a swing like Tiger or Ernie? Well as amateur golfers, I think that we should probably forget about that. But we can learn from watching the pros. And here is an opportunity for you to watch your favorite pro golfer in slow motion and see what he/she does in their full swing and maybe pick up a tip or too. It’s also pretty cool.

It All Starts With Your Golf Grip

Smooth, easy tempo is so key to a good golf swing. And you have to use the big muscles to execute the golf swing. Those two things together make a good grip one of the main foundations of a good swing for all of us amateur golfers. Read on to see what I mean.

Help With That Golf Slice

This is possibly the most asked question related to the full golf swing. From my experience, significantly more amateur golfers struggle with a slice than a draw or hook. And many times it comes from a couple of basic problems. And they are fairly easy to correct

Short game still the key to a solid golf game

I was doing some reading recently after getting several questions from readers about their short game and found some interesting numbers in a couple of recent articles that continue to reinforce that the short game remains the key to your golf scores. This area of our games falls into what I call the “knowing-doing gap”. We all know that chipping and putting is so important, but we seldom do anything to improve this part of our game. Maybe these numbers will finally get through to us golf nuts!

Golfer On A Mission

If you want a great story that is motivational not only for golfers, but for everyone, then you need to read about Phil Bundy. Phil is a golfer who is on “A Quest To Play On The PGA Tour”, as he calls it, but I call it a fantastic story and I just had to write about it. I mean think about it, what golfer hasn’t dreamed about playing on the Tour? Or finally getting their game ready by the time they are 50 to play the Senior Golf Tour?

Is this a one golf stroke penalty situation?

Dear Golf Nut, I have a golf rules question for you. Recently, during a friendly round of golf with my usual foursome something unusual happened with my golf ball. We were about half way through the round when I noticed that I was playing the wrong golf ball. It was one like mine but had a mark on it from a permanent marker. When I mentioned it to my partners, we suddenly realized that somehow one of the golfers in our group and i had accidentally started playing each others’ golf balls. We don’t know how or when this happened and really didn’t know what to do. Should each of us taken a one penalty stroke or no penalty? Thanks for your help.

My line is usually good (I think so anyway) and I think that I am getting a good stroke towards the cup, I just keep missing to the left. Please help!

Is my golf buddy entitled to a free drop on this one?

Dear Golf Nut,
My golf partner is a right hander. He recently had his backswing obstructed by a tree. So he changed to a left handed swing, but at that point, his stance was on the cart path. He claimed relief and took a drop, then he hit the golf ball right handed. Can he do this?
