Any changes to putters in the 2006 golf rule changes?
Golf Nut, you have written about the changes to the golf rules for 2006. Was there anything in there about putters? I have heard that there might be some restrictions concerning the longer putters?
For 2006 you are safe if you use a longer putter. None of the golf rule changes affect either putter length or how you use the longer putters (like tucking it in the belly). At least that I’m aware of. So you won’t have to forfeit that club championship due to a rules violation.
Now listening to a lot of golfers that I play with, many of them consider the longer putters and belly putters as a wimpy way of beating the “yips”. They believe that these should be outlawed as golf equipment. They also take every opportunity to abuse anyone with a putter like this.
Now I am fortunate to have never had “yip” problems or severe mental cramps about the putting part of the golf game, so I may seem a little unsympathetic to those of you who have experienced problems with the flat stick. But I’m really not. With the challenges I have had with other golf clubs, namely the driver, I am not like those guys I just mentioned above. I say go for any advantage that you can legally get.
So putt away with the flag stick putters and good golfing!

Golf Nut,
Are you going to post an update on golf rule changes for 2007? Last year I really enjoyed your update.
I heard that there might be a change on the drivers that have been illegal in the past. Any truth to that? Or are there any other rule changes about golf clubs?
