Are pro golfers Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson having a battle?

What is the going on with Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson? I have heard or read somewhere that they really hate each other. Is this true or is it just competition between a couple of great pro golfers? I also heard recently where there was no way Jack Nicklaus would even consider pairing them together at the just finished Presidents’ Cup.

I believe that this whole discussion is just one of those items that has been way overblown by the media that covers the professional golfing circuit. The so called “feud” between Tiger and Phil has been reported in various ways that could lead you to believe that there is a running battle between the number one and number three ranked golfers in the world.
But looking at this situation, I’m not sure why people sometimes expect the men and women on the PGA and LPGA tours to all be such wonderful friends. Like any other group, in professional golf there are friendships, acquaintances, and just pure competitors. And there are probably some relationships that are like oil and water (or should it be like golf balls and sand traps?).
It’s my opinion (and that’s all it is, no basis in factual evidence) that this situation is another of those that we see everyday in all walks of life. Two individuals who are both very competitive and at the top of their profession, who just happen to not be great friends. Intense competitors on the golf course, but not sworn enemies. I could be wrong, but that’s how I see it.
As far as the President’s Cup, well it looks like Jack was a very smart captain as the US pulled off a very exciting win. And as far as pairing Woods and Mickelson, I think that it’s just a matter of a captain putting together as many twosomes as possible who have chemistry and golf games that work together. Obviously, Chris DiMarco and Phil Mickelson have that as they helped close out the International Team.

  1. I really dont like phil mickelson, hes so smug, slobby and false. He really is one of the most annoying sportsmen of all time.

  2. Phil is my favorite golfer of all time, i also really like Tiger. I don’t think that they hate each other i just think they play thier own styles of golf. Phil is a caring, fan pleasing favorite and Tiger is a quiet nothing to do with the fan except show them great golf.

  3. Phil and Tiger do actually have a bitter end to eachother and this is why.
Phil Mickelson says he was only trying to compliment Tiger Woods in a magazine interview when he said the world’s No. 1 player has inferior equipment.
“I hope that line wasn’t taken out of context by some people,” Mickelson said in a statement Wednesday. “It was meant nothing more than a positive comment on Tiger’s incredible talent.”
In an interview with Golf Magazine for its March issue, Mickelson said he and Woods have a better relationship than most people realize. Asked if there were any issues between them, Mickelson said, “Well, maybe one.”
“He hates that I can fly it past him now. He has a faster swing speed than I do, but he has inferior equipment. Tiger is the only player who is good enough to overcome the equipment he’s stuck with.”
Mickelson plays Titleist equipment. Woods formerly played Titleist, but switched to the Nike Golf ball in 2000, to the driver a year ago at Pebble Beach and to the irons last fall.
The comments didn’t sit well with Nike.
tiger has obviously been with nike golf for a long time and he has a good relationship with them, so if a fellow pro knocks Nike, tiger would always defend them.
