Are Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson making a statement about golf's Fed Ex Cup?

It's very interesting that two of the top three golfers in the FedEx Cup points standing heading into this weekend's Tour Championship have skipped one of the four "playoff" golf tournaments. With this playoff format being new and a level of criticism having been thrown at Commissioner Finchem's "baby", I wonder if Tiger and Phil are trying to get a point across?

Heading into this weekend's finishing playoff golf tournament, Tiger Woods is first in the FedEx Cup points standing and Phil Mickelson is third. I find it interesting that Tiger skipped the first playoff golf tournament and Mickelson skipped this past week's tournament.

And Mickelson's comments were even more interesting. He indicated that he was "conflicted" and "torn" about whether to play. Then he added that "My frustration from this past year came from asking for a couple of things in the FedEx Cup that weren't done". You can read whatever you want into that.

But here you have the two golfers who will probably fight it out for the title this weekend and they missed one fourth of the playoff tournaments. It sounds to me like many of the pro golfers, and in particular Phil and Tiger, want some changes and are making statements by their actions to get the ear of the Tour Commissioner.

I don't really know the particulars that the pros are looking to change. But I do believe that if Commissioner FInchem doesn't listen to the golfers, the FedEx Cup ultimately won't succeed. What would happen if the big names decide not to play at all in the playoffs next year? I mean they don't need the money.

So it will be interesting to see what happens during golfs short "off season" in terms of changes to golf's newest format. But I do believe that Finchem is probably smart enough to listen.

I think they are just "golf-out" personally. They have enough money. Seeing Tiger 3 out of 4 weeks was amazing!
