Did Tiger leave his golf clubs at home?
Much will be written about Tiger Woods and the 2006 US Open. He did show up at the US Open but missed his first cut as a professional golfer in a major. How will this great golfer cope going forward with this major life change?
Jack Nicklaus, talking about Tiger 6 years ago, said that as time passed, Tiger would have to cope with life’s changes. Things such as marriage, children, and birth of a parent. Nicklaus also talked about his poor play after the death of his father and how it ultimately motivated him to re-dedicate himself to the game. Now Tiger is at that point. He is married and just lost his Dad who he was extremely close to.
Tiger has always been driven. He, at a relatively young age, has already remade his golf swing twice in his drive for perfection. He parted ways with his golf coach, Butch Harmon a while back as well.
So what does all this mean? Well no one knows, except maybe Tiger. But my prediction is that he will do something similar to Jack and refind a focus to get himself back on track. I don’t think that Tiger’s heart was in this US Open. I think that he was here because he felt that his Dad would want him to be and because he is real professional. But I think that he also will bounce back and win at least one of the remaining majors if not both.
That’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it.
