Did Tiger leave his golf clubs at home in the Accenture Match Play Championship?
After dominating Stephen Ames in his first match, Tiger was upset by Chad Campbell in round 2. He just couldn’t seem to get his golf swing going. How did the #1 golfer in the world lose this one?
Tiger not only dismantled Ames, but apparently was making a point about Ames comments on the practice range Monday. Tiger would not really give much response afte the match, except at one point saying “9 and 8”. So how can a professional golfer like Tiger go from that kind of round to the one he just had against Campbell?
Well, my opinion is that nothing really happened to Tiger. That’s just golf. And that’s what I really love about the game. No matter how dominant a golfer like Tiger is, the game can still humble even the golf giants.
And I don’t think that will ever change. And to his credit, that speaks volumes about Tiger to have become as dominant as he has. But it also speaks volumes (or it should) to all young golf challengers coming along. In other words, on any given day…..
No other sport provides that type of leveling from event to event. To us amateur golfers, that is like that one awesome golf shot out of an otherwise mediocre round. It gives us hope and keeps us coming back. And keeps us many times from dumping our golf clubs in the pond!
No wonder the game of golf has such universal appeal! I still think Tiger will dominate this year, and I don’t pull for or against Tiger. But it’s great to see that the sport can provide such upsets and drama. Until next time, stay nuts about golf!
