Disqualification golf rules for incorrect scorecard
Golf Nut, if a golfer signs an incorrect scorecard, is he disqualified or does the error just affect the hole on which he recorded the wrong score? What do the rules of golf say on this?
Well, the rules of golf say yes AND no. No, I haven’t lost it at this point. Just too many swings of the golf club in July at midday. The sun has finally gotten to me. No, really the answer is that it depends.
In stroke play, the golfer is responsible for a correct score being recorded for each hole played. And the penalty for breach can be disqualification.
If a player records a score for any given golf hole that is lower than he actually shot, the result is disqualification. If a golfer records a score for any given golf hole that is higher than he actually shot, the score is recorded as turned in.
Now an interesting little twist can be if the golfer is having someone else record his/her score, for instance like a golf caddie. Then the golfer must make sure that the “marker” has signed the scorecard and he/she must also sign it. Penalty for breach of this golf rule is also disqualification.
Remember to brush up on the rules of golf every year. They can be complicated, but most of the ones that would affect your golf game or your golf score can be easily learned in a short period of time.
Hit ‘em long and straight!
I have recently won a monthly medal but been disqualified because the committee supposedly could not read my name ontop of the score card, appart from that they said the card was perfect. My name was on the competion list and my name was also on an envelope containing my entrance fee.Had they had tried it would not have been difficult to work out that the name was mine.I wrote my name on the card.Under rule 33-5 can they do this.
Posted by: john dennan at September 27, 2006 01:11 PMIn high school, a player from another team keeps your score and then both of you sign it at the end of the tournament verifying that it is correct. If one of the players recorded the score incorrectly on a hole, are both players disqualified or just the golfer whose score was incorrect (assume the score recorded was lower than the actual score)?
Posted by: Alex at May 18, 2008 09:43 PMPlaying in a greensomes competition my partner entered his name in Player A and Player B column. Our Handicaps were identical, so they were correct. We won the competition but was disqualified. The start sheet we completed was correct. We were disqualified under rule 33-5. This rules states it is the committee's responsibility to complete the players names and dates but may ask the competitor to do so. My question is are the committee then void of any responsibility to ensure the information they've requesting the competitor to complete is correct?
