The Golf Nut’s Thoughts On Tiger Woods

Hello Golf Nut’s. I have held off writing anything for a while after Tiger’s press conference.  I don’t want to spend a lot of time writing about Tiger this year.  But I did want to get my thoughts out there one time. So here goes.First let me say again as I have in the past, I have never been a super Tiger fan and I haven’t been negative on Tiger either.  I have always respected his game and his competitive drive.  There is one other aspect about Tiger that I will mention in a minute.  But I have never bashed Tiger and don’t intend to start now. But I will say my piece this one time.

In Tiger’s apology, he asked people to find a way to believe in him again.  But I, for one, don’t know if I will ever be able to trust what he says and does going forward.    Some will call me judgemental and that is ok.  But as much as I wasn’t a super fan of Tiger, I did really respect his game and I also really respected him as a man.  I really thought that he was one of the “good guys”.  I believed that he was a guy who had achieved it all in his sports career and still kept his perspective and was a true role model.

But he wasn’t….

There are those who say that sports stars don’t have to be role models.  And maybe that is true.  But he accepted that role.  Tiger put himself out there as a role model and then let everyone down.

He has been criticized a lot about how he spoke the other day.  What he said, what he didn’t say, how he said it, and on and on and on.  None of that matters to me.  Although I will say that he looked really uncomfortable.  As well he should.  He was not only out of his element without a club in his hand or a great round just finished, but he was admitting things no one wants to admit.

And I personally think he was sincere.  But again, it doesn’t matter to me.  My bottom line is this:  Tiger was not the man that I though he was or the man that he led the world to believe that he was.  And not only was he not that guy, but I just can’t overlook what he did and how he went about it.  That’s just me.  Others may feel differently and that’s ok too.  We all have our opinions.

He may go on to achieve even higher greatness in the game of golf.  But for me personally, I just don’t respect him as a man and don’t know if I ever will again.  And I believe that there are probably more out there who feel the same way. And I think that makes it not only a sad day for Tiger but a sad day for golf.

  1. We should respect Tiger for the great golfer he is. Although he has done wrong in is personal life he has not killed anybody. The majority of the population have affairs. What he does is up to him. I’m sure he will his golf do the taking anyway!

  2. Tiger is a great golfer. I personally don’t like him but he will be back.
