Golf swing problem with my irons
Golf Nut, I am always hitting my irons on the toe of the golf club. I have played golf or 20 years and used to hit my irons fair, but now I consistently hit every golf shot on the toe. I have tried everything, including standing closer to the golf ball. Experienced golfers have watched me and say that my golf swing looks fine. Any ideas?
Without watching your golf swing this is a tough one. From your email it sounds as if you have tried every golf tip known to golfers. The fact that you hit your driver and your woods well is interesting to me.
Let me give you an unusual golf trip to try. I am wondering if for some reason it has to do with your body type. I know that this sounds strange but maybe the length of your arms, torso, and legs makes the longer shafts on the woods work better for you now. As you have gotten older, usually that means a less flexibility so your normal stance and normal golf swing might not work as well for you as when you were younger and more flexible.
Here is an easy way to test. Go buy a $3 golf club at Sam’s Club. Have it reshafted with a slightly longer than normal shaft for that particular golf iron. It doesn’t really matter which iron, but I would suggest a 7 or 8 which is one that a lot of amateur golfers hit well.
So for about 15 dollars or so you can test this. The reason I suggest this is it might be a simple solution without changing your stance or your golf swing. After 20 years of playing golf, I don’t think that you want to mess with either of those at this point. If a slightly longer shaft solves the problem, it will possibly give you a little more distance on your irons as well.
