Has Mickelson shaken his golf swing “problems”?

I talked earlier this year about Phil Mickelson struggling on the West Coast swing. Now as he heads into this weekend’s Masters golf tournament does his recent victory at the BellSouth Classic golf tournament mean that he has his golf swing back in gear and is he prepared to make a run at more major victories this year?

Unfortunately for Mickelson fans, I believe the answer is no. Yes, he shot the lights out in Atlanta. But that course is typically fairly easy for the professional golfers (unlike how tough it is for you and me). So I don’t think that you can use it as a gauge of where Mickelson’s golf game is.

I would love to see a battle on the links between Phil and Tiger this week, but I don’t think it will happen. And I still believe that Mickelson is not focused enough in 2006 to make a run at the majors. I believe that you will see his frustration level rise, starting with this week.

Now none of this is me trying to say Mickelson is a bad guy. I just look at his aggressive style of golf and say that when that type of player gets frustrated (which I believe he will this year) it tends to turn into ugly golf. Even at his current level of play, Phil could still take most players to golf school anytime, anywhere. And believe me, I’d love to get golf lessons from the guy. I am just predicting a tough 2006 for him.

Now I believe that by 2007 he’ll have put it back together and probably win another if not two major golf championships. I just don’t believe that it’s in the cards for this year. That’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it.
