Have you used a golf net for practice?
Hey Golf Nut, do you think a golf net is a good golf training aid? Have you used one and did it help? I am a decent golfer but I really want to groove my golf swing.
Well yes as a matter of fact I have used a golf net. I’m not sure that you want to base your decision on my results. I never had any luck with it. However, let me tell you about a friend of mine who has used a golf net extensively and then you can make up your mind.
My buddy is literally a scratch golfer. Has a golf handicap of about 1. He has used a golf net extensively over the years in his training regimen. Please remember that he is at the point of not taking golf lessons anymore and knows what he is trying to work on. But when I tried my golf net he gave me some good advice.
First he recommended using the golf net indoors. Otherwise he said you won’t use it consistently due to weather. He used his in an unfinished basement. But you can use it in a garage, an unfinished bonus room etc. That was part of my problem. I didn’t have an indoor place to put my golf net at the time.
He also said to make sure that you have used some kind of a golf swing trainer. The golf net is a good golf training aid, but what you are trying to do is groove a good golf swing through repetition. If you haven’t used a good golf swing trainer (such as the Momentus swing trainer) you could be grooving bad habits. He also said that it was probably a good idea to have had a few golf lessons that you found worked for your golf swing.
His last piece of advice was to videotape yourself periodically to see how you golf swing looks and what kind of progress you are making.
Now wrap all of this up and what does it tell us? Well it says that a golf net can be a good golf training aid, but it’s not for everyone. Using it outdoors probably won’t work
It’s probably not a solution all by itself and it makes sense to use it in conjunction with a golf swing trainer, and probably after having taken golf lessons.
