Tiger Woods won his 12th major championship as a professional golfer today, winning the PGA Championship at Medinah. The way the round began, the field could have left their golf clubs at home today. Tiger was dominant from the start.

A lot has been written about Tiger's quest to break Jack NIcklaus' record of 18 major victories. WIth a dozen in only 10 years as a pro golfer, I personally don't think Tiger has much to worry about. Even if he decides to change his golf swing for the third time, he has already shown that that only slows him down for a short while.

But the amazing thing to me is not any of the above. It's the statistic about Tiger's finishing power as a golfer. He is 12-0 when he has at least a share of the lead at 54 holes. In other words, he just doesn't fold up or back up under major golf tournament pressure.

I don't know if any of you amateur golfers have a feel for what pressure is like. I can't imagine the pressure that the pros feel. I remember when I won my flight of the local member-member golf tournament at my club. The 10 flight winners then went into a sudden death elimination shoot out starting on the tenth hole. Each group had to tee off in front of the audience that was left at that point in the day, about a hundred people.

Now I am not trying to say that there is any similarity between that situation and playing for the win in a major professional golf tournament. But I wasn't sure that I would be able to make contact with the golf ball much less hit a decent drive. So I can't imagine what it is like for the pros.

My point is this. To be 12-0 against the best in the world in majors is basically unbelievable to me. My hat is off to TIger!.
