No warmup time at all for your round of golf?

Golf Nut, I’ve read your golf tips for warming up and I have had good success with them. But what do you recommend when you are late and don’t have time at all to hit a few golf balls at the range.

Here is something that I have used before in this situation and I have found that it works well for me until I get loosened up. It’s just 3 simple steps.

Step 1. You need to slow yourself down. Many times when you are running late getting to the golf course, you get your heart rate and blood pressure up. It’s that normal “tenseness” when things don’t go right.

While you are waiting for your turn on the tee box, focus on taking slow, deep breaths to get your adrenaline out and to get your body calmed down. You can do this quietly without any fuss, but it does take focus.

Step 2. Take three irons and swing them slowly at the same time through a couple of full swings to loosen up your muscles. Don’t do too many of these, just 2 or 3 should do.

Step 3. When it’s your turn to tee off do the following even though it will be hard to make yourself do it. Tee the ball up and don’t take a practice swing. Just step up to the golf ball and take a swing very slowly like it’s your practice swing. And just take about a three quarters swing for this first golf shot.

This is a little unorthodox, but I have found that this process does two things. It keeps you from thinking too much about the fact that you were late and then thinking too much about trying to hit a great first shot. And it slows you down so that the tempo on that first golf shot is smooth like it should be.

It may not work for you, but I have used it successfully and I’ve given this to other golfers who have reported success with it also.
