Potential golf rule change for irons

I don’t know how many of you golfers out there are aware of what the USGA is considering. But they are collaborating with golf club makers and looking at the possibility of limiting the size of the grooves on golf irons. Let’s talk about this for a minute.

The change being considered would basically limit the amount of spin that you can put on a golf ball. Now for most of us amateur golfers, this may not be a big deal because we don’t currently put that much spin on the golf ball.

But my concern is the overall idea of limiting what the golf club can help you with. This is a fine line for me. I don’t think that there will ever be golf clubs that will let you play golf if you have no golf swing. But I definitely like how technology has helped amateurs like me with some of the struggles that I have had with my golf swing.

So the question becomes, where is the line? How far should technology be allowed to go and how much should the USGA be allowed to limit what technology can do? I am concerned that once the USGA starts limiting things, will they go too far?

I, for one, will be watching what happens with this very closely. I would be interested in what some of you other golf nuts think on this one.
