Problems When You Are Between Golf Clubs

Dear Golf Nut, I hit my irons fairly well but have difficulty sometimes when I am between clubs. It really affects me on the longer irons from the 6 iron on up. Any suggestions?

I have struggled with this exact problem with my golf swing at times. It can be extremely frustrating since you never seem to be at that perfect distance for your irons. But I picked up a tip that really helped me with this.
Think about in the past when you have hit your long irons the best. For me it was always when I really had more club than I needed and was really swinging slow and easy. Many times in that situation I would really catch the golf ball solid and hit an almost pure iron shot.
So that is really the key to this simple golf swing tip. When you are between clubs, and in particular on your long irons, take one more club than you normally need for that distance. Then relax and think about just taking about swinging at about 80% of your normal swing speed. Really try to focus on smooth and easy and think 80%. Then take a nice easy swing.
I’ve found that this really helps on this problem. And you might be a little long, but my experience is that a good solid shot that is a little long is almost always better than the result that I used to get when I was between clubs. Of course you have to take any hazards behind the green into your planning.
Good luck and let me know if it works.
