Putting practice to improve your golf game

Golf Nut, do you have any recommendations for putting practice? I really feel that by improving my work with the putter I can lower my golf scores

Ah, questions about the blade! Hitting the driver and putting are such a big part of the game. Forget those other golf clubs for a moment. You most definitely can improve your golf handicap by working on your putting! You didn’t mention what your current average golf score was, so I will aim this article towards the mid to high handicappers.
The primary focus that I recommend for this range of amateur golfers is to practice 5 to 7 footers and under. If you think about your 5 most recent rounds of golf, you can probably recall a number of putts of this length that you missed. Dropping a 20 footer is a great feeling but it’s those missed putts under 10 feet that add strokes to your handicap.
One particular drill that I like for this kind of short putting practice is to use four balls surrounding the cup at even intervals, one at 12 o’clock, one at 3 o’clock, one at 6 o’clock and one at 9 o’clock. Start at a distance of 3 feet. Work at this distance until you sink all four golf balls.
Next move to 5 feet, then 7 feet, and finally out to 10 feet. You can try it also with uphill, downhill, and even sidehill putts. This putting drill will really improve your confidence on short putts and will lead to a lower golf handicap.

  1. Im a junior golfer, a young teenager and i was wondering two things, i dont make alot of money and i dont go to the golfcourse alot but i want to practice putting in my yard, how can i accomplish this, I also want to know how to improve my swing i reckon I can hit at least 220 yards with a driver but i want to shoot for 300 but my father says its not how hard you swing it is the way you swing, so what is this way.

  2. I am by no means a great golfer, but I have a tip for those who struggle on the green. I spent all winter putting on my carpet aiming at a very small target such as a marble, and my putting has dramatically improved this year over last. Try different carpet at different distances and if you can get consistant at hitting the marble, you will feel as though you are putting at a hula hoop when on the course.
