Relief on the golf course from a temporary immovable obstruction

Golf Nut, How do you take relief from a temporary immovable obstruction? Could you end up taking more than one golf club length if the obstruction still interferes with the golfers direct line to the green after a free relief drop?

Ok, so you have a temporary immovable obstruction. Let’s first take a look at what this is defined as. The rules of golf (24.2a) define interference by an immovable obstruction as Interference by an immovable obstruction occurs when a golf ball lies in or on the obstruction, or when the obstruction interferes with the player’s stance or the area of his intended swing that is interfering with your golf swing.
As I understand the rules of golf, they say that to take relief the player must lift the ball and drop it without penalty within one club-length of and not nearer the hole than the nearest point of relief. If after this drop, the obstruction interferes with the golfer’s line of play, then you have to play around it. This would be like any other golf shot that ended up with an tree in your line of play. Rule 24 says that Otherwise, intervention on the line of play is not, of itself, interference under this Rule.
But the rules allow you to tdrop the golf ball and not have the obstruction within your line of play as long as the drop is within one club length of and not nearer th ehole than the nearest point of relief. In other words, you are not prevented from dropping to give you a good line of play as long as you stay within the rules.
Whew, golfers I hope that answered your rules question without too much confusion. Sometimes the rules get a little wordy and I do as well. Hope this helps!
