Tiger Woods: better golfer after fatherhood?

The question has arisen on how fatherhood will affect Tiger Woods. Just like when he got married, golf writers and fans are wondering if this new bundle of love will affect his game. It's almost like everyone who follows the game of golf is looking and hoping that something will tumble Tiger from his pinnacle.

One article that I read made mention of the golfer that Tiger has admitted to chasing since he was very young, Jack Nicklaus. It talked about how early Jack and Barbara had kids and concluded that, like The Golden Bear, fatherhood would have no effect on Tiger.

I strongly disagree. I think that it will actually make Tiger a better golfer. Look out world of professional golf....Tiger Woods even better? I believe so and let me tell you the reasons why I believe this.

First, being a parent really puts things into perspective for you. You learn even more about what is important and what isn't. Now some might argue that this would cause Tiger to lose some of his focus on golf. I don't think that can happen. But what I do think will happen is that the little things that sometimes bother Tiger now (camera shutters making noise at the wrong time for example) will simply fade away. When compared to waking up in the middle of the night with your young child running a fever, little things become really little. So being a father, I firmly believe, will ground Tiger even more than he is now and will allow him to stay even more focused through distractions. A lot of little things just won't be distractions any more.

Second, motivation. I think that Tiger will reach a point where he wants to be with his wife and kids more than he is on the road playing golf. But he wants to grab that golden ring of "most majors" won that he has been chasing for a while. So the end result? I think that hee will work even harder to get there sooner. It may sound crazy, but I think he will win more majors even quicker now.

Third, focus on the majors and big tournaments. With the motivation from the second item above, it will take a better game to win more majors sooner. After all, the majors make the PGA professionals look more like you and I with their tough setups. That means that Tiger's already phenomenal work ethic should go into overtime. A scary thought for the other golfers.

Now you may totally disagree with me on this and that's ok. But I do believe this to be the case. And I am not a Tiger crazy fan as I have said before. I respect him as a golfer. But I disagree that fatherhood will have no impact, I believe he will become an even better golfer as a result. How good? Who knows, but it should be fun to watch.
