US President's Cup Golf Team Proved Me Wrong
I really loved to be proven wrong on this one by the US golfers. I was not real comfortable with our overall past performances in team golf tournaments, but the US really stepped up and won the President's Cup in a solid performance. And I don't mind being wrong on this one.
Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson were respectable but not dominant. That was pretty much par for the course. But the win was really put together with David Toms, Scott Verplank, and Stewart Cink playing very strong golf and some of the other golfers picking up points at key times to add to Tiger's and Phil's solid play. It was really a team effort by the US golfers.
Which has not historically been the case with the US teams. But maybe this is a good omen for next year's Ryder Cup competition. The Ryder Cup is typically a much tougher match for the US due to the traditional strength of Europe's golf team.
Maybe the Americans are learning how to play this type of golf after many years. If so, it will be exciting to watch in 2008. I have been skeptical of the US so I hope that they can really turn it up several notches. We owe the Europeans for several defeats in recent years.
Anyway, let me offer public congratulations to the US President's Cup golf team for a great victory. Thanks for proving me wrong.
