What are some good golf tips on putting?

What are the best tips on putting that you have heard? I love golf and am improving steadily, but I struggle with my putting from time to time and have never really practiced it much. What has anyone shared with you that you felt was a really good golf tip?

I’ve been fortunate to have a couple of really good caddies and a couple of very good amateur golfers share a few things with me about putting. But there are two golf putting tips that have really made a difference for me.
The first was a very simple thought that has helped me tremendously with breaking putts. I was looking at a very severe breaking putt one time and when I asked my caddie what he saw, he replied “Looks straight to me.” I looked at him like he had been drinking the liquid fertilizer that they spray on golf courses. But he then shared with me his philosophy that all putts are straight. In other words, once you get your read, forget about the hole. Otherwise you may be tempted to try and guide it to the hole and end up either pushing it or pulling it slightly. Just step up to your golf ball and hit it straight on the line you read and let the break do the rest.
It sounds almost too simple, but then I realized that I was in fact thinking so much about the break that I wasn’t consistently hitting the golf ball down the line that I had read. Using this thought improved my putting on breaking putts tremendously.
The second golf putting tip that has helped me a lot is to make sure and read the putt from both sides of my golf ball. It is always amazing to me if your greens have a lot of break or a lot of up and down, how different it can look from one side to the other. I will always see things from behind the cup that I didn’t see from directly behind the golf ball. And I’ve found this to be true on most golf courses that I’ve played, regardless of how difficult the greens were.
Now to follow good golf etiquette and avoid slowing things down, you need to be reading your putt before it’s your turn. You also need to be considerate of the others in your golf group and not be moving while they are putting or be visible in their line of vision causing a distraction. This is not hard to do, but sometimes it’s easy to forget. I have been playing for 12 years, but I’m still an amateur golfer and get distracted easily and forget these things sometimes.
These two putting tips eliminated a lot of three putts for me and really helped me to shave strokes off my golf handicap. I hope that they help you too! By the way here are some more putting tips.
