What can you sweep the golf green with?

Dear Golf Nut, a buddy and me were arguing about a golf rule. What can you use to sweep the green before putting? For example if there is some kind of trash or debris between your golf ball and the cup? Are you allowed to use your golf clubs?

Interesting question. I would like to know what position each of you took on this one since you didn’t give that information. Email me and let me know.

There are very little limitations on this golf rule. In fact, there have been some pretty neat gadgets created to do this job. Just watch them sweep sand off the greens at the Masters and you’ll get a show.

But the only thing that you can’t do is press down on the golf green. This means that you can use just about anything… a towel, your cap, a golf club, your hand, a golf glove, we could go on and on.

As long as you don’t press anything down while sweeping there really isn’t a restriction on what object you can use. I wouldn’t necessary recommend using a metal rake or your golf spikes, you might run into problems with the greens keeper, but if one of you was arguing that you can only use certain things, sorry to say you lose.

Folks, we are excited about the response to our site! Keep reading and keep sending your golf questions.
